“During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It is a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord if it is you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:22-33 (25-31)
Peter stepped out of the boat and went after Jesus. Do you think it was easy for Peter to step out of his boat and try to walk on water? Following Christ can be uncomfortable and scary at times. A lot of times, following God can feel like stepping out of a boat to walk on water. And sometime it can even feel like stepping out in the middle of a raging storm. Are there any ways that you feel God is calling you to step out of your comfort zone to follow Him? Even after stepping out of the boat, Peter had doubts, but Jesus was right there to grab him when he started sinking. God will always be right there to grab your hand whenever you start sinking; all it takes is you calling out to Him. Listen to God’s voice, step out of the boat, and don’t be afraid to call his name when you hit struggles.
